About Alexander
I’m a former mathematics teacher and mathematics teacher educator, and am currently in the final stages of my PhD in mathematics education. I am an active researcher in issues of diversity, equity, and belonging in mathematics classrooms. One of my favorite aspects of my work is interacting with students, helping them develop robust mathematics knowledge, and seeing them succeed.

I see each student as a unique person with lives, experiences, and history. By getting to know my students individually, I leverage these experiences to create a learning environment where students feel that they belong and can do mathematics, and I conceive of my role as a teacher as being one who helps students realize and make explicit progress towards their educational and career goals. I also leverage my extensive training in academic research in my teaching; this includes psychology, mathematics, and pedagogical theory. My lessons vary between inquiry, instruction, and problem solving; this means that my lessons are varied yet aligned with students’ needs and goals. Pedagogically, I am a structuralist.
