About Aurora
I am a linguistic anthropologist, and I am in the process of finishing my Ph.D. thesis at the University of California, Berkeley. I am living in the CDMX while, and I am interested in helping students with their English skills, particularly in terms of academic translation. I started teaching about 6 years ago at the U. of California - they were social anthropology classes for undergraduate students, and I loved developing intellectual relationships with them. In the last three years I have been giving private English classes and for groups of 5-10 people, of various levels. I have edited and translated several papers and articles from Spanish to English and vice versa. I have a degree in anthropology and linguistics from the University of Massachusetts; I also have a certificate in Native American Studies.

My teaching style is based on the idea that knowledge should not be only a privilege of certain social groups; This means that it is very important for me to include everyone in my classes and recognize that there are different learning modes. As for my way of teaching English and translation, I try to focus on the most practical elements of communication, instead of using many abstract concepts. I want my students to end up being very comfortable using the language and their translation knowledge. I also use different teaching aids, for example, articles about current events, or a WhatsApp group where you can practice.
