About Shireen
Hi! I'm Shireen, a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology. As an academic working in the arts, I have plenty of experience in critical thinking and thesis-based writing styles, so I can help you with any writing project whether in the humanities, social sciences, or the arts.
My research is about informal music education at summer music camps in California, Greece, and Türkiye so my specialties are in pedagogy and communal music-making as well as 20th century cultural studies, history, nationalism, and the intersection of music and politics. I also speak French, Spanish, and Turkish and would love to talk to you about any music topic that interests you!

I have taught university courses on pedagogy and different world music topics in a small seminar setting as well as in big lecture halls. I have also been a teaching assistant for 7 years, working directly with undergraduate students to support their learning whether with research, writing, or studying. Being a TA has been especially rewarding as I get to work with students one on one or in very small groups, so I can adjust my teaching style to the students' needs. I have also tutored high school students and my peers in graduate school on various writing projects from essays to grant proposals to dissertation chapter editing.
I am also a Graduate Pedagogy Fellow, which means I completed two terms of training in best practices for equitable teaching and learning. The program focused on supporting under-served populations, but the skills, tips, and tricks that I learned are applicable to learners from every background. My Dad was a first-generation college student and he was able to thrive in college so I want the same for you, regardless of the challenges you are overcoming.
