About Maren
I hold a PhD in Gender, Feminist & Women's Studies from York University, and I have taught English, social sciences, academic writing, public speaking, and drama for over twenty years to hundreds of students between the ages of 15-65. I can help with all aspects of academic research and writing, as well as presentation and public speaking skills. I also hold two diplomas in Speech Arts and Drama, and recently achieved my TESOL certificate. I am also a DJ, musician, and budding filmmaker.

Under my tutelage, students have gone from earning D to A grades in humanities subjects. After years of marking papers as a Course Director and Teaching Assistant, I know exactly what professors are looking for when evaluating papers and exams.
While working as a Writing Instructor for two years at York's Writing Centre, I assisted individual students with interpreting assignments, organizing research notes, getting started at writing, proper documentation styles, and editing their own work. I also taught several group workshops and lectured to large undergraduate classrooms on the fundamentals and processes of academic essay writing, and avoiding plagiarism.
I am proud to successfully boost student confidence by acknowledging the challenges of academic writing while also proving that students can succeed in their goals when provided with effective tools and support.
