I offer A-level Sociology tutoring, drawing on over nine years’ experience teaching students in further and higher education.
My approach is results-driven and focused on helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for. I work with students across the major exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas. I help students develop clear, well-structured answers, use sociological case studies and theoretical perspectives effectively, and build strong analytical and evaluative arguments that meet the relevant assessment objectives, including AO1, AO2 and AO3.
A key focus of my lessons is developing exam technique and strategy. Students learn how to approach different question types, structure their answers effectively, and apply their knowledge, analysis and evaluation under timed conditions. Lessons are structured and progressive, with each session building on previous learning.
I make Sociology relevant and engaging by connecting topics to current affairs and contemporary social issues. For example, we might explore sweatshops and fast-fashion brands such as Shein in relation to globalisation and exploitation, or examine the reasons behind the recent rise in the number of young people in the UK who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs).
I provide my own up-to-date teaching and revision materials, tailored to each student’s individual needs, level and exam board.
I work with students according to their individual goals, whether that means building confidence, securing a pass or working towards the highest grades. My aim is to help students become more confident, independent and effective sociological thinkers, while developing the knowledge and exam skills they need to perform at their best in those crucial 100% examinations.
For students under 18, I provide regular updates to parents on progress, strengths and areas for development.

Ruby is an excellent tutor. She taught my son A-level English Literature for a year, completely transforming his academic prospects. Max used to struggle to engage with the texts, especially Othello, and found it difficult to concentrate for long periods and memorize quotes. Ruby changed that. She clearly had expert knowledge of the texts and exam boards, and made the material fun and far less intimidating. Thanks to her engaging approach and support, Max improved his grade from a D to a B. We are absolutely delighted that he can now pursue his first-choice university. I couldn’t recommend Ruby highly enough.
Ruby tutored my daughter in GCSE English literature and language last year. Ruby really helped her with her confidence and understanding. She was diligent and always kept me informed of my daughter’s progress and areas of development.
We were delighted with her fantastic success with her exams.Ruby helped me with my son’s English Literature modules—we wanted him to fulfill his potential by giving him the extra support his local school wasn’t able to provide. Ruby supported him online, weekly for nine months, which resulted in him going from a 7 to a 9, which he received this summer.
Max actually enjoyed his time with her and vigorously consents to me recommending her!Excellent tutor - thoughtful, curious, patient and very adaptable. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
Ruby tutored my daughter in A-level English Literature last summer, and I honestly can’t recommend her highly enough. My daughter has dyslexia and had been struggling with the subject, but Ruby was incredibly kind, patient and encouraging. She quickly understood where my daughter needed support and worked with her in a way that really built both her skills and her confidence.
Ruby is an excellent and very knowledgeable tutor. She explained things clearly, adapted her teaching to suit my daughter’s needs, and helped her develop much stronger approaches to analysing texts and structuring her written work. With Ruby’s support, my daughter improved her grade from a B to an A, which was a fantastic achievement.
We were so grateful for Ruby’s help and would highly recommend her, particularly to anyone looking for a skilled, patient and supportive English Literature tutor.
Ruby is an inspiration! She is so knowledgeable and teaches with such enthusiasm and passion. She tailors her teaching to the needs of the individual and has a remarkable insight to their methods of learning. I have been fortunate to witness the attitude of some of her learners change from being initially unenthusiastic to enjoying the process of learning autonomously inspired by Ruby's lessons. Would highly recommend.
