About Jess

An enthusiastic and passionate lover of English, I have been teaching for 10 years. I am a key stage coordinator, and teach KS3, GCSE and A Level, with experience in curriculum design and exam marking.

As a practising secondary English teacher, I bring current classroom and exam-board insight into sessions, helping students understand not just what to write but how examiners reward responses. I focus heavily on structure, analytical precision and confidence-building so students feel prepared and independent in assessments.

I come from an Outstanding grammar school, and hold a bachelor's in English Literature with History, and a master's in English. My speciality is 19th century women’s literature, but I have an extensive breadth of passion. I believe the enjoyment of English and literature builds a foundation on which critical skills can be developed.

About the lesson

Personalised lessons and sessions on English Literature and Language, focusing on close analysis skills, literacy, essay writing and creative writing - whatever your area of focus, I can tailor to your needs. Past papers, practice questions and exam prep, taught through a mixture of teacher-led, collaborative and independent tasks and activities to develop critical thinking and enjoyment of literature. I am most familiar with the AQA GCSE English Literature and Language spec and the Edexcel A Level English Literature spec, however I can adapt to your exam board and texts.
