About Amaya

I’m currently a junior pre-med student majoring in molecular microbiology and immunology, with double minors in biology and film. My passion for science and storytelling drives my academic pursuits, allowing me to connect complex scientific concepts with creative expression. In addition to tutoring, I work as a science mentor at my university, where I support fellow students in their academic journeys. I also serve as the academics chair, organizing events that promote engagement and collaboration within the science community. My diverse background equips me with a unique perspective, enabling me to make learning both enjoyable and meaningful for my students.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, focusing on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment where students feel confident to express their ideas and ask questions. I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, helping them build a strong foundation in English while also nurturing their creativity.

I use a combination of interactive activities, discussions, and hands-on exercises to make learning English enjoyable and relatable. My goal is to connect the lessons to real-life situations, encouraging students to think critically and use their language skills in practical ways.

- Typical Lesson Plan:

1. Warm-up (5-10 minutes): Begin with a quick review of the previous lesson or a fun, language-related game to get the student engaged.
2. Introduction to New Topic (10-15 minutes): Present the new topic using examples and relatable scenarios. For example, if we’re focusing on creative writing, we’ll discuss story elements like characters, settings, and plot.
3. Interactive Exercise (15-20 minutes): Engage the student with activities that involve writing prompts, storytelling, or vocabulary exercises, encouraging them to practice their skills in a creative and structured way.
4. Guided Practice (10-15 minutes): Work through a piece of writing together, providing feedback and tips on how to improve their work. This part is collaborative, allowing the student to see different approaches to refining their ideas.
5. Wrap-up and Homework (5 minutes): Summarize the key points of the lesson and assign a small, enjoyable homework task to reinforce what we learned. This could be a short creative writing prompt or a vocabulary exercise to prepare for the next lesson.
