About Shaniyah

I have been tutoring casually for friends and family for a number of years, but since discovering how impactful my services were to struggling students, I decided to branch out further.
I went on to teach as the head English tutor of a tuition centre and I have never looked back since. I have taught over 60 students in the past 2 years, all of whom went on to be successful and reach their goals with me.
All of the GCSE students, who have been supported by me through their studies, have passed; with the vast majority improving by at least two grades on average.
Other students, such as those needing coursework support or my proofreading services, have all benefitted greatly from my inputs and all went on to improve by at least one university level or A-level grade.

As a student, you deserve to feel safe and secure in the knowledge you are investing in, and that is always my first priority. Regardless of your age, ability, level or exam board, I am here to offer tutoring that changes your perspective on learning. I always aim to leave students feeling hopeful after every session. You can succeed in English and I am here to help you make that happen.

About the lesson

My general teaching method involves a number of steps:

Step 1) Defining key terms and becoming familiar with what the syllabus and specification require of you. If there's anything you don't know that you should know, this I where we'll find out and work on it.

Step 2) Applying the knowledge of these key terms to a text (whether that be your own work to improve it OR someone else's work worthy of analysing).

Step 3) Stringing it all together by thinking about how all our points thus far can link together.

Step 4) Integrating the definitions into a more comprehensible form so you know how to formulate a quality answer. I teach you how to do this, because it shows the examiner that you certainly know what you're on about and it proves that you have definitely met the criteria for the grade you so greatly deserve!

Step 5) Template. We create an outline of how you are going to write your answer. We eliminate anything that doesn't quite fit and we essentially plan where to go from here. This is the last step before you compile your own answer, then the rest of the work is for me - I check your answer, pick it apart and note improvements so that next time it's even better.

I call it the DAS-IT method because that's it... That's all you need to do and with my help, this method could really change everything for you.

My lessons are usually 1 hour long so we spend about 10 minutes on each step. However, this methodology is very flexible, and I have many many more - each one will always be different and catered to each individual student. If you come to me specifically wanting tutoring on why on Earth Porphyria's Lover was so psychotic and what on Earth that has to do with your GCSE English Literature qualification, then so be it! You don't have to worry about finding what works, you just have to show up with an alert mind and positive attitude - I'll handle the rest.
