About Sienna
I was born in Hawaii and left when I was 6 years old. I went to my mother's country, Panama speaking Hawaiian pidgin. After learning Spanish from my Abuelita, I picked up a southern draw in Texas and was educated in the East Coast. So, I understand the language barriers many of my students face.
I graduated with Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary--content Biology. This includes 16 weeks of student teaching. I have a current HI teaching lic. Biology 6-12.
I began my career in education as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Instructor in 2007. I instructed high schoolers & adults to resuscitate & provide patient care. In 2011, I set out to learn more about human anatomy &biology when I registered for biological science courses at Univ. of District of Columbia. I work temp. as a intern/teaching assistant at Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Research Center. I became connected with science professionals, teachers and doctors.
I am a doctoral student. I am a model and ran for Miss Hawaii in 2019. I want to place a large welcome mat to students who may lack self efficacy &/or affect for learning science. I want to target special needs, socio-economically challenged, & ELL students. I create curriculum in which students are self directed & independent explorers of science. Teachers are facilitators of content and developers of student innovation, inquiry and creativity.
