About Ollie

Despite attaining very high grades at both GCSE and A-Level, they didn't always come easily, so I understand the importance of hard work. Particularly with a subject like English, though, it helps to have someone there to guide you, to critique your work, and to tell you exactly what an examiner is looking for. Therefore, to me, having that guidance is something I would have found invaluable for exams, particularly as I know it would have given me extra confidence.

Because of that, I love the opportunity I have to help educate students. Whether they're really struggling and are looking for urgent help, or even if they're excelling and are looking for extension work, I'm more than happy to get stuck in.

About the lesson

Being closer to the age of the students I teach makes the lessons more productive and helps the students feel more at ease. We will often begin the lesson by going through any homework that may have been set the week before. We will then do a mixture of verbal discussion and written work.

Lessons are normally an hour long (though some students prefer an hour and a half). I have been tutoring for several years, and am highly proficient with the English language, it being a major part of the degree I do. Since I recently sat many of the exams that students sit, I can offer useful insights about the latest material. Sessions are, though, always tailored for the individual student, and I am happy to focus on the areas they find the most challenging or engaging.

The lessons normally end with a conversation between me, the student, and the parent(s). This allows for constructive feedback on the student's performance, as well as providing an easy way to establish what goals to work on.
