About Wayne

I remember being in your shoes. Up until around year 10, I never particularly enjoyed school. It was only when I changed classes and got new maths and science teachers that my view of education changed drastically. My mathematics and physics teachers brought a level of enthusiasm and exitement that I had never seen before in a classroom. They made the topics seem less like some random facts we "have" to learn for the sake of it and more like interesting concpets that I could understand and explore.

It's no exageration when I say that those teachers changed my life. I am not promising to change yours but I am promising that I will try my best to bring a new and engaging perspective on subjects you might not otherwise enjoy.

My passion for education extends beyond the classrooom - in my spare time, I work to improve access to education in the UK as the chair of UCAS' Student Advisory Group and internationally through volunteering placements.

About the lesson

I always aim to tailor my sessions to maximise the amount of time available whilst catering to any requirements the student might have.

Broadly speaking, I employ one of (but not limited to) two methods of teaching:

The first emulates the Oxbridge tutorial system whereby the student attempts a set of problems to the best of their ability before the session. We then spend time together working through the student's solutions, covering any topics that the student found challenging during their own attempt and stretching their understanding where possible.
The second is a more traditional method where I go over a (requested) topic, explaining the concepts and working through examples with the student. The student is then set a few homework questions to solidfy their understanding of the work done in the session.
Open to different teaching styles that best suit the student where possible.

Lessons are typically 45 minutes to 1 hour in length but longer lessons can be organised with suitable break intervals.

50+ hours tutoring experience with students (13-18)
3rd year undergraduate Engineering Science student at the University of Oxford.
A*A*A* Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics A-Level
9 and 8 in GCSE Physics and Mathematics respectively
