• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I was born and raised in northern Spain, in a region called Asturias, so I'm a native speaker. Here we also have another language, Bable or Asturianu, which is ancient and closer to Latin, but not official yet.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Film director Pedro Almodóvar knows how to encapsulate Spanish culture, behaviours, and ways of thinking inherited from traditions, religion etc through a mixture of drama, comedy, and parody. I highly recommend his films to get a closer look at Spanish culture. Being aware that he also likes playing with exaggeration and stereotypes!

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  There are many proverbs in Spanish, I particularly like:
  'Nunca es tarde si la dicha es buena' which means that is never too late to learn/try/do new things if one is willing to.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking Spanish enables people from many countries to communicate and connect not just through the language but also through the cultures attached to the language. It's a way of sharing traditions, and worldviews... which enriches lives!

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  It depends on the learner's learning styles and their ability with other languages! For some people conjugating verbs feels really tricky, for others not so much. So I meet people where they are at and support them in how they need to be supported.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  At school, I had pen pals from France and Sweden and that really motivated me to learn and practice languages. Apart from letters we used to exchange pictures and little presents; it was an amazing way to extend my connections and language experience.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  At school, I studied French and my first trip as a teenager was to Germany, to stay two weeks with a family. I was unable to speak much German or English. My luggage was lost at the airport and I had to communicate as best as I could to sort that out (the bag arrived the day before my return!) and to communicate with the family. That immersion really help me to 'feel' how much I wanted to keep learning both languages!

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  I have over 10 years of experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds, in different settings, so I have tools to support students in their process of learning Spanish. I love teaching Spanish and I believe my students can feel this in our lessons!
  
  Everyone is unique, therefore I adapt my classes to each individual's needs and interests.
  
  I also love studying languages myself so I can empathize with students, and I really value their efforts and commitment.
