About Roger
To sum up my personal philosophy on education and its importance would be to say that I believe there is no such thing as a wasted education. I believe that even if someone goes to school for training in one field and ends up in a job unrelated for what they have trained, their education has not been wasted. The reason I say this is because I believe that any educational experience is a benefit to the person receiving it. To me, one of the core purposes of formal education is to enable people to think and reason for themselves. I believe that any and all educational experiences can help a person to become better at thinking and reasoning than they were before.
Before I became a teacher, I spent twelve years away from a classroom setting. In those years, the importance of the ability to think and reason for oneself became quite evident. This ability will allow one to become productive and successful in the workplace. People need to be able to gather information from what is happening around them and make decisions based on these observations. There are very few jobs in this world where the boss is with the employee every minute and telling them what to do. Even on an assembly line, people need to have the ability to think and reason to be good at what they are doing. If a person has any ambition to ever move up in the workplace into any kind of supervisory position, then their ability to think and reason must increase exponentially if they are to be successful in that capacity.
I feel that regardless of the subject matter, students should be challenged to expand their knowledge base to be used in their future life. While it may be true that a particular topic may not be relevant to what a student will be doing in the future, the process used to study through the topic is useful in exercising their mind for future use. A good education can be a springboard for a student’s future life. If they make the best of it, it can be the beginning of a future that has no boundaries. As an educator, one of my main goals is to help students realize this and to make the most of all educational opportunities that are available to them.

I believe that everyone can learn but realize that not everyone learns the same way. As daunting as learning Chemistry can be for some, I have found that by breaking it down into "bite-size" pieces, you can learn it and be successful.
