My methodology varies depending on the student interests.
Improvisation: Our general goal is for you to be able to have more confidence in your musical ideas and to be able to have more control of what you want to express.
Motivic development, exercises for improvisation on arpeggios, available tensions, soloing curvature and handling of scales with chords are some of the things we might work around.
Music Reading and interpretation: We work trying to understand how to dynamically read by feeling the rhythm.
Composition: Keeping in mind that music is to be listened to and that theoric tools are only there to help us, we work understanding concepts such as the use of sensible notes, types of chords, substitutions of dominants, types of modulations, uses of the bass in different chords, modal interchange, modal music , constant structures, coltrane changes (if there is interest in the subject), multitonic grips and orchestration for big bands.
