About Manuel
You're preparing to move to Italy. You want to arrive ready — not lose the first months trying to figure out how things actually work.
My name is Manuel. I'm Italian, I live in Bologna, I work as a civil engineer, and I teach Italian to people who are planning a move to Italy.
My lessons are different from a standard language course. We don't waste time on restaurant dialogues or the daily life of fictional families. We work on the real situations you'll face in your first six months in Italy.
What you'll learn to handle — in Italian:
— Getting your residence permit (permesso di soggiorno), tax code (codice fiscale), and registered address (residenza) — what to ask for, where, in what order
— Opening an Italian bank account and understanding what they're actually offering you
— Finding housing: reading listings, talking to landlords, understanding a rental contract
— Navigating the Italian healthcare system (ASL), choosing a family doctor, booking appointments
— Dealing with SPID, PEC, registered letters, and documents from the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) — the bureaucracy nobody warns you about
— Job interviews in Italian: how to speak, what to say, what's better left unsaid
— Enrolling your kids in school and communicating with their teachers
— Understanding what your accountant, lawyer, or notary is actually telling you
How we work together:
Lessons are fully in Italian from day one — even if you're starting from scratch.
I know it sounds impossible. It isn't, with the right method. Immersion works faster than translation. I guide you through visual materials, concrete examples, and targeted repetition. After three or four lessons you'll notice you understand far more than you thought you could.
Every lesson is built around a real situation: an actual document, a conversation you'll need to have, a form you'll need to fill out. No theory for the sake of theory.
Why work with me:
— I'm a native Italian speaker. I don't teach textbook Italian — I teach the Italian people actually use
— I'm a working engineer in Italy. I don't know Italian bureaucracy as a lesson topic — I live it every day
— I work with a small number of students at a time. Choose me, and you get my full attention, lessons tailored to your situation, and materials built around your specific case
— After six months with me, you don't just "get by." You arrive in Italy and run your own life
Who I'm not the right fit for:
If you're looking for cheap lessons, several times a week, "just to practice conversation" — I'm not your guy. I work with people who have a serious goal: a move, a deadline, a life to build.
How we get started:
First introductory lesson — 30 minutes, free. We'll figure out where you are, when you're arriving, and what worries you most. From there I build a personalized program for you.
Send me a message here on Superprof with a few lines about your move to Italy, and I'll get back to you within 24 hours.

I'm Italian, originally from southern Italy, now based in Bologna. By profession, I'm a civil engineer. I run my own practice, manage my own projects, and I'm a registered member of the Bologna Order of Engineers.
Teaching Italian isn't my main job — and that's exactly why I do it differently. I'm not a teacher by training. I'm an Italian who lives Italy every day, deals with its bureaucracy, talks to its people, and understands the country from the inside. That's what I can teach — not rules from a textbook.
I started teaching because I keep seeing the same situation over and over: foreigners arriving in Italy with enough Italian to order a coffee, but not enough to understand a rental contract or a letter from the tax office. It creates stress that could have been prevented in advance.
I work with a small number of students at a time — by choice. I prepare every lesson around the specific person: their level, their timeline, their situation, their fears. I don't use one textbook for everyone.
What I value in my students: a serious intention, consistency, and a real desire to learn — not "let's try a couple of lessons." If you have a goal and you're willing to put in the work, we'll get there together.
