About Michael
I am Michael Stark, an American educator from San Diego, California, now based in Taiwan. I have taught English and provided academic support since 1999, working with learners from early childhood through adulthood.
I hold a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and a 150-hour TESOL certificate from Arizona State University. My background also includes ten years as a juvenile justice court counselor and five years as a counselor and teacher at Ivy American School in Kaohsiung.
Through Michael’s Original Student Tutoring (MOST), I provide patient, personalized instruction that builds understanding, confidence, and independent thinking. Having lived in Asia for more than 25 years, I understand many of the challenges students face when learning and studying in English.

My online lessons are tailored to each student’s abilities, interests, and goals. I work with children, teenagers, and adults, developing reading comprehension, writing, academic English, and confident communication. I also provide support in U.S. curriculum subjects, selected AP courses, speech, and debate.
We begin by identifying strengths and areas needing support. Lessons combine clear explanations, guided practice, discussion, and meaningful assignments. Students learn to explain their thinking, ask questions, and apply what they learn.
For younger learners, I emphasize phonics, vocabulary, and understanding what they read. Older students develop analytical reading, organized writing, and effective speaking. Families receive feedback on progress and practical guidance for continued learning.
Discounted rates are available for students taking lessons more frequently. Prepaid packages can be arranged around a regular monthly schedule. We can discuss lesson frequency, scheduling, and package options during the free consultation.

Details
Online lessons only. I am based in Taiwan (UTC+8) and work with students internationally. Please contact me to discuss a suitable time before booking.
Each regular session includes 50 minutes of individual instruction and 10 minutes reserved for lesson notes and feedback. Relevant practice assignments are included to reinforce learning between sessions.
