About Dwayne

I taught English in China for 8 years. I always developed my curriculum depending on interests of the Students because I found that if you don't make it interesting and fun then Foreign students (especially children) can become distracted very easily. I am energetic, enthusiastic, understanding, compassionate, knowledgeable about teaching English as a Foreign Language and how to keep the students interested. I would prefer to teach topics that students give me and I prepare my lesson plans around their interests. Students have voted me top foreign teach at Beijing Institute of Technology for 3 consecutive years.......Students consider me humorous which is important when teaching languages when can get a little boring if the teacher is not outgoing and motivated

About the lesson

I like to develop a curriculum based on the interests of students. For example if a student wants to study abroad then I will develop lesson plans to prepare them for IELTS and TOEFL testing. If a student is planning to do International Trading then my curriculum is business oriented. In a classroom I like to use Powerpoint because being able to show what you are teaching is very important in order to keep students interested and it also makes it easier to understand what the teacher is teaching. For children I use Phonetics in order to teach the basic sounds and proper pronunciation........With my experience I could also teach potential teachers how to teach in China as well as how to survive in a country where everything is totally different than what they are accustomed to. (Known as culture shock) which can be quite severe for some.

Details

Since there is a 12 hour time difference between here and Asia I know it is difficult sometimes to make cancellations until the last minute so I think 1 hours notice of a cancellation is suffice and the student will not be charged but if it happens on an ongoing basis then either the student will have to pay some compensation or the other option would be to stop teaching the student, which I would hope will never happen.
