About Xiangrui

My name is XiangRui Chen and I am currently a postgraduate student in the education department of Uuniversity of York.

There is an old story in China: what do you need to know about how to break a horse? The answer is knowing more than a horse knows. If you are going to tame a horse, you will soon discover that although the theories are necessary, they are still not enough. A wrangler should accurately know what a horse might or will do. If not, he will fail to tame it. Similarly, teaching children has something in common with taming horses: know how to impart information and skills.

I once interned at a Kids Art Training Organization where I responsible for the eloquence class of students aged 4-15. In the class, there were always some uncooperative students whose parents often told me that their moods were unstable and would lose temper with their parents. In order to change these situations, I began to carefully observe the individual performance and state of each student, and analyzed their psychology as well as needs through their words and behaviors, so as to timely adjust my teaching mode and state. In this process, found that sometimes, because I did not understand the psychological characteristics and needs of children, I put forward inappropriate requirements(too high) for children, resulting that the students’ self-confidence was hit because they could not reach the goals. In other situations, driven by the inherent impression of students, I would make judgments on some behaviors of students in advance, which also led to children’s resistance. Hence, when managing students, I judged students’ emotions through their expressions and

behaviors to adopt correct educational methods. For example, if children showed dissatisfaction and resistance, I would respect them, let them express their views on the school and teachers. And in the face of the children’s problems, I would make reasonable use of the children’s competitive psychology and help children to recognize their own mistakes, thereby improving the ability of children to recognize their own shortcomings. Personally speaking, to do a good job in education, they are key factors to understand and reach into children’s hearts, understand what they need to build a bridge of trust between teachers and students.
