About Oliver
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately for over 10 years in instrumental instruction as well maintaining a busy performing schedule in various forms of music. I also teach at a School in Stratford where I teach one to one guitar and bass lessons in addition to group lessons and work with the school big band and wind band.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I hold a current DBS certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
i have studied privately with Steve Watts, Zoltan Dekany, Michael Janisch, Laurence Cottle and Jeff Berlin.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a number of students of varying abilities and ages.

My name is Oliver Hopkins and I am a professional Double bass / Electric bass/ Guitar teacher and player. I am very passionate about teaching and really care about helping my students achieve their full potential.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I give private instruction in a number of different of instruments and different music topics. I teach Double bass (Classical/Jazz), Electric bass, Electric guitar/Acoustic guitar. I also teach Jazz theory / Classical theory (Associated board grade 5 and further) and Composition/Song writing.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a Jazz Bmus Degree from Trinity College of Music (1st) and Associated Board Grade 8 Double bass (Classical)
- How much do you charge?
I charge £45 for a one hour instrumental lesson.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Forest HilI. I have a studio in my flat so you can choose to bring your instrument or you are welcome to use an instrument here if it makes travelling easier.
- When are you available?
I teach Wednesday - Friday and weekends from my home. I do travel to students in East London but this is currently only on Monday and Tuesday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, I teach complete beginners to advanced students.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am happy to prepare you or your child for Associated board exams (Jazz or classical) if you so wish. If there is another qualification you would like help with preparing for, please let me know and we can tailor the lesson to achieving the highest possible grade in this qualification.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am available for Skype lessons, The prices are the same as for normal lessons.
