About Chris
Hi, I'm Chris Succee. I'm 27 years old, living in Canada with a Ba. in History and Film from the University of Western Ontario. I graduated in 2024 with honors. Afterwards I attended film school at Fanshawe College. I've been tutoring since 2019 in history, mainly offering homework help and essay guidance to teens and young adults. Later on I tutored film and English.
I love films and history and strive to use the two fields together to teach both. It is important to know the historical context of a movie, and a movie often helps a learner understand a historical moment.
My fascinations, in addition to history and movies, include philosophy, politics, gaming and languages. I can speak German at an intermediate level and have recently begun learning Chinese.
My long-term goals include making a feature-length documentary, becoming a polyglot and living in China.
I look forward to meeting new people every day and hope to meet you as well.

I use film clips to help illustrate historical moments and build up interest in the topic within students. Analyzing films too helps to understand the respective cultural and ideological characteristics of the national history being studied. For example, the rebelliousness of 1960s American youth culture is shown in films like American Graffiti. The reasons for the Russian Revolution are shown in films like Battleship Potemkin. The dire state of Weimar Germany is shown in the movie M. There are so many ways to understand history through the analysis of film. They are the perfect teaching aids for a history class.
