About Dori
I am a recent graduate of an NYC private school and a member of Brown University’s incoming class of 2024. In high school, I maintained straight A’s in my junior and senior years in intensive pre-calculus, intensive calculus, intensive Spanish, English, and History courses. I was a pre-professional ballet dancer for four years, including the first two years of high school, and I spent the second half of high school heavily involved in social justice work, even co-founding and leading the Students of Color Matter Movement for which I have received congressional awards for my work. I don’t leave for college until January, so I am available to tutor in the college application process, the ACT, and the courses mentioned above of pre-calc, Calc AB, English, and History. I have a background as a History and English center tutor for two years at my high school but am new to college and math tutoring. I approach each student in a different way and aim to tailor their learning experience to their own needs. In my experience, it takes about a session or two to assess each student's strengths and weaknesses in the subject they seek to improve in; however once that is done I am able to take a more targeted approach that is centered around strengthening weaker areas while continuing to fortify the one's they already excel in. I believe that tutoring should be extremely collaborative and that the student should feel supported rather than just having work thrown at them. In the event that a student is doing ACT prep, I will ask the student to complete a practice test or forward me a diagnostic and we will work from there.
