About Benjamin
I’m Benjamin Withers, an 18-year-old currently studying Sports Journalism at the University of South Wales. I’ve always had a deep passion for history, having studied it extensively through both GCSE and A-Level. My areas of expertise are 20th-century European and American history, but I have a broad interest in many historical periods, including the French Revolution, English Civil War and Anglo-Irish history.
As an 18-year-old tutor, I can easily relate to students, having recently gone through the same academic challenges myself. I understand the pressure of exams and how it feels to juggle studies, and I use that experience to help students feel more comfortable and confident in their learning.

My tutoring approach centers on making historical content clear, digestible, and exam-focused. I break down complex topics into manageable pieces and reinforce them with techniques like past paper practice, essay planning, and revision strategies such as blurting and mnemonics. My lessons typically last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the student's needs, and are tailored to the specific areas they need help with—whether that’s exam preparation, understanding historical events, or improving revision techniques.
Although I am new to tutoring, I bring fresh experience with recent GCSE and A-Level exams, having earned a B overall and achieving A's in exams in A-Level. My experience with the pressures and expectations of school exams means I’m fully aware of how best to help students. I specialize in 20th-century European and American history but am happy to teach any historical period.
My lessons are designed for GCSE-level students,
but can cover A-level or lower, who need support with their history studies.
