About Gabriel
I am a friendly and positive person who enjoys helping people. I aim to make people proud of what they know, improving their weaknesses and refining their strengths. I am a student at UCL studying Natural Sciences. I am taking Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics & Statistics modules as part of this course. I am interested in Organic and Materials Chemistry primarily but enjoy exploring anatomy. I enjoy sports and swam for 12 years, racing at a national level. I also like painting and dancing, although I am better at painting than dancing.

I focus on understanding. To properly learn a subject this is key, no matter the material being learnt. At GCSE and A-level, you cannot do well without understanding the topic, whether you enjoy the subject and want to learn more or just need to do well in it. To do this, I ensure the person I am tutoring knows what I am teaching them by asking simple yet important questions. Listening to these responses ensures I know what a student is struggling with and then I can focus on that. Once I feel that the basics are understood, I build on this so that they are constantly growing. I also use practical examples and analogies so that abstract or difficult to grasp topics can be appreciated. I also try to provide something interesting to read or do out of lessons to reinforce what was learnt and provide some real-world applications of the subjects covered. Lessons are typically an hour, although they can be longer but then a 5-minute break halfway because most people struggle to concentrate for longer than around an hour.
I have significant experience tutoring my siblings, friends and the children of family friends. I think being the eldest child has helped in this regard. While I do not have formal training, the people I tutored had significantly improved comprehension of the topic I mentored on and their test results showed this. Finally, I was involved in teaching people how to swim; this experience is valuable as knowing how to communicate with people and helping them learn is essential to teaching.
