About Ken
I am a Psychology and Education undergraduate student at UC Berkeley bringing years of tutoring experience across elementary school, high school, and community college. I have supported students in English, reading, writing, math, and other subjects, such as ethnic studies, history, and psychology. I have also helped students prepare for college applications, transfer, and navigating higher education. As a native Tagalog speaker, I am deeply passionate about supporting Tagalog-speaking students and families because I know what it is like to navigate education while balancing culture, sense of belonging, and different expectations. I want students to feel understood, supported, and confident in their learning. My approach is patient, encouraging, and personalized, with a focus on building confidence alongside academic skills. I believe every student has their own strengths and experiences, and I strive to create a welcoming learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing as learners.

My approach to tutoring is people-centered, supportive, and personalized. I have experience tutoring students across different educational levels, from elementary students to high school and community college students, in subjects including English, reading, writing, math, and other areas. I firmly believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable, respected, and understood. I use a humanizing and decolonizing lens by recognizing that students bring their own experiences, identities, cultures, and ways of learning. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through questions, examples, practice, and discussion so they can build confidence and develop their own understanding. I see education as a form of empowerment and liberation, so my goal is not only to support students academically, but also to help them recognize their abilities, advocate for themselves, and develop the skills they need to thrive throughout their own educational journeys. As a native Tagalog speaker, I highly welcome Tagalog-speaking students and families.
