About Mariona
¡Hola!
My name is Anna-Maria and I am Spanish, from Barcelona. I am a qualified teacher with eight years teaching experience at a Secondary School in the UK. I have taught Spanish to A level and French to KS4 and I am also currently teaching Latin at KS3. I have experience teaching different ability groups, from higher to lower, with pupils aged 11-18 which has helped me to acquire a good understanding of the different teaching and learning strategies and the ability to target specific help and plan for all ability groups. In addition to my role as a secondary school teacher, I have also given private online tutoring to students undertaking official examinations (GCSE and A-Levels) and online and face-to-face classes to adult learners with different levels of linguistic competence, from A1 to C1-C2.
I have a degree in Spanish and English with a Mention in Italian from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. During my degree, I spent a term teaching English in a Primary School in Barcelona. Moreover, I tutored English to teenagers and adults. After my degree, I did a Masters in Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona and a PGCE to teach Spanish and French at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster.
I really enjoy teaching and learning languages and I am currently learning German so I am aware of the possible barriers students may face when learning a new language.
When teaching, I always try to share this passion for languages with my students by creating fun and interactive lessons using real materials and sharing all my cultural experience and knowledge. I would describe myself as a dynamic, reliable and enthusiastic person. I am committed to plan accordingly to meet every student's abilities and objectives by using enjoyable and challenging activities.
