About Juliana Sofía

I grew up between the Baja California Desert and the Andean Mountains of Colombia, while living in Ensenada (Mexico) receiving a bilingual education in English and Spanish (mother tongue).

My pleasure for language and foreign languages started at an early age in my language learning processes and classes. Particularly, when I started learning my third language: French, in which I have professional working proficiency and was greatly enriched by the +3 years I lived in France.

As an enthusiastic language learner myself, (besides English and French) I have taken lessons of Italian, Japanese, German, Portuguese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese. Also, I am currently self-directed learning Danish. This range of language learning experiences provide me to this day with inspiration around good teaching practices to make the lessons more fun and meaningful.

My passion for applied linguistics and language education led me to complete a BA in Applied Linguistics for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (EL), a Diploma in ELE, and an MSc in Education.

I have language teaching experience in nurseries, primary and secondary schools, universities, and private lessons in Mexico, Colombia, France, and Scotland. Also, I am a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme of the Scottish Government for people who do regulated work with children and vulnerable adults.

About the lesson

Language lessons need to be tailor-made to meet your needs and motivations. It can range from academic, professional or intercultural purposes (maybe your partner is a native Spanish speaker?), but we will use our first lesson to discuss your interests in learning Spanish to design the most suitable lesson plans for you.

My conversation-focused lessons can be suited for beginners with previous basic knowledge (A2), independent (B1, B2) or advanced users (C1, C2), but let's discuss your experience with Spanish to see if we can work together.

My lessons draw from my teacher traning and research experience from my MSc in Education from the University of Edinburgh, as well as my BA and Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia) and the Instituto Caro y Cuervo (Colombia).
