About Jose Antonio

Chilean citizen who grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. Given my diplomat father my upbringing was very international.

I graduated from a small private prep school in the area and enjoyed the classical liberal arts education received from this rigorous institution. I also studied German since pre-kindergarten and am a German citizen. From age 5 on I studied piano as well and am classically trained. I had the honor to study under distinguished professors in the area and my last was from the Washington Conservatory of Music. My favorite music to perform is from the romantic time period of music, this also informs my taste in opera.

Now I am in my senior year at the Kelley School of Business and have interned in New York at JPMorgan for the past two years. The sector I work in is Private Banking for Latin American clients. This interests me because of the clients and investments seen daily. They are ultra-high net worth individuals from LatAm who open accounts with a base $25M+ (liquid assets minimum) to be administered in the United States. There I enjoy applying both macro knowledge of the world and markets with micro specificity on each client's nation and their own needs.

In my free time I both cycle and do equestrian competitively, at a collegiate level. I volunteer regularly too and continue to study history and literature. Genealogy is also an area of interest to me.

About the lesson

My method is led by the goal I have with students: understanding of the language in its proper form and reinforcing steady comprehension. Id est, my lessons do not dilute the language for convenience as is often done by some lukewarm schooling.

Long-term growth through daily reading and work is the only way to reach a level of comfort or fluency. Faking Spanish is possible to a short extend (close limit), but given my professional experience and the circles I am familiar with, command of the language or utilization of it as an art is only possible with thorough reading and study.

For children I teach through songs, pictures, and stories.
With adults I employ readings, current events, stories, and history.

I am available for all levels of Spanish and all ages. For example; I can prepare students with learning difficulties, those preparing for exams (any level from elementary to college), and those who would like to gain professional proficiency.
