About Samantha

I am a soon-to-be high school graduate and while I don't have a professional degree yet, I have prior experience tutoring for an organization called TeenVest, where I've curated a curriculum for my own class and helped students comprehend concepts of economics. I've taken both AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature, both of which exam I got a 5 in. In addition, I've assisted in the social media management of my school's Spanish account. I am very passionate about Spanish as it is my first language and it establishes a key part of my self-identity. I hope to foster a sense of curiosity and further engagement in Spanish beyond your time spent with me, although I hope that portion of your language-learning experience proves to be equally engaging.

About the lesson

My lessons are directed towards beginner and intermediate-level students. Growing up as a 2nd-generation immigrant gave me a perspective where I am connected deeply with my culture while resonating still as an American, and therefore I view language as less about structural rules and more about self-expression and the unconscious knowledge of new ideas. My lesson plans would typically involve learning new terms and concepts through the given context in readings that are particular to the tutee's subjects of interest, writing prompts that encourage putting into practice varying sets of vocabulary, and spoken discussions, that which either is structured like a two-way conversation or a spoken response to a given prompt. The lesson plans have a greater emphasis on real-world applications as well, including cultural understanding and communicating with native speakers.
