About Kirksey

Hello! I am a senior in college and will be graduating in May 2021 in the top 5% of my academic class. I am graduating with a BA in Political Science with three minors in Spanish, Women and Gender's Studies and International Studies. I am a Presidential Scholar required to maintain the highest GPA and academic standing within the school in all of these areas. I recently wrote a published thesis on the Analysis of Political Discrepancies in Genders in the United States and Mexico. I have also conducted a number of academically based internships, including living in Mexico for three months through a language and cultural immersion program with the United States Consulate. Through this experience, I gained near fluency in Spanish in only a matter of three years by full immersion and am a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the national academic Spanish Honor's Society. I have experience tutoring in a wide variety of subjects ranging from reading, writing, ACT preparation, science, and especially Spanish skills. The majority of my experience has been in assisting non-native Spanish speakers, like myself, with passing their classes, completing assignments and fostering a love for the language. I have taken a number of classes on the language including advanced Spanish Literature. I have worked with high school students and middle school specifically, but have tutored younger ages in other subjects. I have also tutored my fellow college peers in various legal and political based classes through my scholarship program by leading group study sessions each week and offering one on one tutoring for athletes on academic probation. I currently assist in a Spanish 1 and 2 class in a local high school throughout the week.

About the lesson

My teaching method is to develop a mentor relationship with the individual students and pay certain attention to their needs and desires as an individual. I have found that by listening to the student and learning their own goals and hopes for fostering a knowledge of the given subject can truly help me advise them more accurately. I also think that mentoring them allows a positive energy to exist between myself and the student that can ensure they are more comfortable when asking questions or attending sessions.
