About Kirsten

Born and raised in a small town in Mainland China, I first came abroad to US when I was 20 as an exchange student. The continuous compliment I received from professors and fellow classmates about how I sounded so much like a native English speaker definitely raised my confidence in my foreign language learning skill, which is to copy how we learned our own native language, starting from mastering the listening and speaking part. Thanks to my parents who never complained that I used to watch the 1st Harry Potter movie almost every week and even memorized the script and tried to talk like I was Hermione.

Now, I applied the same method to learning Korean, watching K-drama definitely helps. Even though I still need to improve on the reading and writing, I am proud to say I can comprehend close to 90% of the conversation level Korean and can also hold simple discussions using the language. Soon I will start with Spanish too.

So, if you are interested in my learning experience as a foreign language learner myself, welcome to sign up for my class, I would like to share everything with you!

About the lesson

When learning a new language, I usually find people jump into the advanced level reading and writing too early, so on paper they may have passed the official level test with certificate, in real life it's still so difficult for them to manage a 15 mins conversation. To me, I'd like to think of learning a new language the same as how I did with my native one since I was a baby, you take time practice listening every day and eventually start to talk in a year or two. Once you can understand and communicate well enough, then it's time to move on to the reading and writing part. Language learning shouldn't be rushed or only aim at passing exams.

So here at SuperProf, I would like to help those who want to do it at a slower pace to truly firm up the skill starting from listening and speaking.
