About HE

Hi! I'm a native Mandarin Chinese speaker from Nanjing, China, and a postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh.

Having lived and studied in the UK for over eight years, I am fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English. I also achieved an A+ in A-Level Chinese, giving me a strong understanding of the UK education system and what students need to succeed in their language studies.

With a creative background in theatre, film, and storytelling, I love finding imaginative ways to make learning more engaging. I believe language learning should go beyond textbooks, and I enjoy introducing students to Chinese culture, mythology, literature, films, and everyday life.

I'm patient, friendly, and always happy to adapt my teaching style to suit each student's individual needs. Whether you're learning Mandarin for exams, travel, personal interest, or simply want to explore a new culture, I'll create a supportive and relaxed environment where you can learn at your own pace.

My aim is not only to help you improve your Mandarin, but also to inspire a genuine curiosity and lasting love for the Chinese language and culture!

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to make learning Mandarin Chinese fun, engaging, and enjoyable! I believe that learning a language is not just about memorising vocabulary and grammar, but also about discovering the culture, history, and stories behind it.

Through my lessons, I hope to help students discover the beauty of the Chinese language by exploring fascinating aspects of Chinese culture, from traditional festivals, mythology, and history to modern films, music, food, and everyday life.

I tailor my lessons to each student's interests, goals, and language level. Whether you're a complete beginner, preparing for GCSE or A-Level Chinese, or simply interested in Chinese culture, I'll help you build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Mandarin.

Having studied in the UK for many years, I understand the challenges English speakers may face when learning Chinese, and I aim to explain concepts in a clear, friendly, and approachable way.

My goal is to make Chinese feel less like a difficult subject and more like an exciting new world waiting to be explored!
