About Jodie

Ciao! My name is Jodie and I would love to help you become an Italian language master. A little bit about me: I have grown up in Ticino, Switzerland, which is a small area of the country that borders Italy. I am a native speaker in both Italian and German, and as I got older I became fluent in English and French too.

Because my family always worked within hospitality, I was often surrounded by tourists and people from all over the world, so I quickly grew fascinated by the sound of languages. I always wondered, what do I sound like to a non-Italian speaker when I speak Italian? And I tried to hear my own language with foreign ears, focusing on the phonetics rather than the meaning. But no matter how hard I tried, I could not unhear meaning.

Then, over the years, I developed an interest for Japanese literature and I decided to give the language a try. And let me tell you...There is no better feeling than to unlock meaning and go from hearing unintelligible sound to finally grasping what is being said. While the opposite process had left me frustrated one too many times, the deep satisfaction that this gave me immediately made up for it. So I decided that I wanted to share that intellectual high with as many people as possible.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is highly personalised, practical and shaped around each student's goals, interests and learning style. We can work together to improve your conversational Italian, strengthen your grammar, expand your vocabulary and help you feel more confident using the language in everyday situations. If you need help to smash your Italian GCSE exams (or any other exams) we can work on that too. Most importantly, we can build lessons around what matters most to you; for example, if you need Italian for your workplace we can customise your lessons for that, or if you're big on music or film, we can learn with lyrics or dialogues from selected works. I am also open to tutor children, as I find their imaginative inner world fascinating.

Having learnt languages myself, I understand that the process can be both exciting and challenging, and sometimes even frustrating. That's why I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where you can ask any questions, make mistakes and learn at your own pace.

Lessons can be adapted for beginners, intermediate or advanced learners, and they are usually around 60 minutes long, although the format and frequency can be adapted to your needs and availability.
