About Clare

I am happy to customize my teaching to your learning abilities. Though I use a textbook, I don't believe in just reading off from it. I am here to help you learn and feel confident in your language journey. Whether you are just beginning to learn the language, or have a bit of previous experience, I can help you break through those beginner walls and walk with you as you learn to understand the basics of the way the language works, all the foundational principles you will need to know, and as you achieve that conversational level.
I took the HSK 3 test back at the beginning of 2021 and passed with a score of 282/300. I just recently finished HSK 4A as well, and am in consistent contact with native speakers in order to keep up my fluency and keep my speaking sounding natural and native. Having a deep passion for Asian language and culture, I hope to also share with you the beauty of the Chinese language and culture. Many people think of Chinese as the hardest language, but I believe as long as you work hard, it will all come over time. With my teaching methods, you will be confidently having conversations in no time.

About the lesson

Hello!
My name is Clare. Though I don't believe that one tutor is right for everyone, I do believe I offer some very unique and helpful approaches for those learning Mandarin Chinese.
First, I learned Chinese as a second language, so I have first-hand experience with the questions and struggles that a student may have when learning Chinese as a second language. Having just graduated at 17, I may not yet have years worth of teaching experience, but I have taught Chinese in the past. I have a student I have privately tutored from complete beginner to HSK level 3. Though I don't think claiming you can learn a language in a few months is realistic, I can promise an efficient and fun approach to learning the language. I use the HSK standard course textbooks which ease you into reading and speaking conversationally. By the end of HSK 1, you will be able to carry on small conversations, and by the time you get to HSK 3, you should be able to express your daily needs and form more grammatically complex questions. In order to provide the best experience for my students, I currently only teach HSK 1+2. Though I use the textbooks as my main teaching resource, I know that it is also important to change it up here and there. That's why I also prepare other resources to use as a sometimes needed break from the textbooks.
