About Sergio
I was born in Miami, Florida to Cuban Dominican parents. I grew up learning English and Spanish at the same time. I've lived in different cities, like New York and New Orleans. And I have also lived in foreign countries, like Puerto Rico and Egypt. I have also traveled to about 20 other countries because I love learning about different cultures first-hand.
I have an Associates degree in Psychology, and a Technical Degree in Audio Technology. I also took French in high school and college. I have been an English teacher/tutor since mid 2022. Most of my students are from China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Brazil. But I've also had students from Taiwan, Japan, Jordan, and Italy.
When I'm free, I like to make music, travel, exercise, swim, read, watch movies, learn something new on Youtube University, and more. I look forward to hearing from you!

In the beginning, I prefer to find out my student's language level. I also like to find out the reason they want to learn the new language, how often they would like to be corrected, and if there's anything specific they would like to learn.
Learning any language is a great undertaking because there's so many words and rules. I find it best when students have an idea of what they want to learn specifically each class. For example: greetings, goodbyes, business terminology, pronunciation, idioms, general vocabulary, slang, etc. If a student is not sure where to start, I would choose to work on an area I feel is weak.
In general, I like to teach my students new vocabulary, grammar rules, and idioms, and I keep an ear open for any major grammatical mistakes. A lot of times, my students just want to have an open conversation about anything in order to practice their conversational skills. In which case I still take notes of errors that can be corrected.
I consider myself patient, kind, flexible, honest, open, and direct. I will patiently approach any subject from many different angles to make sure my students grasp the concept!
