About Yiran

Hi everyone, my name is Carol and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new Chinese tutor. As a native speaker of Chinese, I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Tianjin, China, before moving to Canada when I was 13 years old. Currently, I am a final year undergraduate student at the University of Alberta, where I am studying Elementary Education combined with Native Studies.

Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I am excited to share my knowledge and love of the Chinese language and culture with all of you. My experience teaching English to year 2 children at Wellington College in Tianjin, China, has taught me the importance of patience, creativity, and flexibility in teaching, and I strive to incorporate these qualities into my teaching methodology.

Whether you are a beginner or have some experience with the Chinese language, my goal is to make the learning experience as enjoyable and engaging as possible. From interactive conversations to fun cultural activities, I am confident that I can help you develop your Chinese language skills and increase your confidence in speaking, reading, and writing the language.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is tailored to each individual learner, as I can adapt to different learning styles and needs. My teaching methodology and techniques involve a combination of interactive and immersive approaches, such as conversation practice, listening exercises, and role-playing scenarios.

A typical lesson plan for tutoring Chinese may include the following:

Introduction: I would begin by introducing myself and getting to know the student's background and goals for learning Chinese. This would also be an opportunity for me to assess the student's current level of proficiency in the language.

Vocabulary and Grammar: I would then introduce new vocabulary and grammar concepts, using examples and explanations that are tailored to the student's level of proficiency. We would practice using these new concepts in various contexts to help solidify understanding.

Conversation Practice: To help the student develop their speaking and listening skills, we would engage in conversation practice using various topics of interest. This would be an opportunity for the student to apply new vocabulary and grammar concepts in a practical setting.

Reading and Writing Practice: I would also assign reading and writing exercises to help the student improve their reading comprehension and written communication skills.
