About Man Hei

I am a passionate and approachable tutor who has an academic background in architecture and design and a strong passion for helping students develop their confidence in learning. I am a natural communicator and am conscious of others during the learning process, valuing their feelings. This sensitivity enables me to foster a safe space and promote a sense of comfort for each student, where they feel accepted, seen, and feel free to discuss any struggles that they may be experiencing.

In addition to teaching content, I want to help students gain a deeper insight into and appreciation for the context and culture in which they are learning. I feel it is better for students to be able to relate ideas to real-world applications, history, and understanding of culture. Teaching this way would not only benefit the student's academic development but also help create a love of the subject, and thus encourage students to learn more about it.

I am a calm, structured, and methodical teacher. I explain complex ideas in a simple way, in steps, and explain them in a way that is suitable for each student's learning style. I make sure each lesson is tailored to the individual, enabling pupils to work at their own level and to become more confident and independent.

I will adhere to good professional practice, be punctual and well-prepared for all sessions. The lessons are well-structured to be focused and productive, but with time set aside for discussion and questions. I'm aiming to provide a positive learning environment that is supportive, motivating, and authentic.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are methodical, encouraging and confidence building, with clear steps of learning. I want to ensure that every session is practical and easily digested; to be able to explain the concepts in small sections and to demonstrate with examples the use of theory in real life situations. I also would like to ask students questions during the lesson to make sure they have understood each concept before they go on.

My teaching approach will be explained, demonstration, and guided practice. Typically, I start with an introduction to the concept, then go through examples with them, and then give students the opportunity to do similar problems on their own and provide support as necessary. I adjust my teaching methods to the learning pace and needs of the learner, particularly for entry and junior level learners who may need basic instruction.

A typical lesson lasts for 30 mins and/or 60 mins to allow for a good introduction of new learning, consolidation of old learning and for completion of practice exercises without feeling rushed. Shorter or longer time sessions may also be scheduled to suit the student's needs and attention span.

I have a strong background in the subject from my study, team work and presentation experience as an entry level tutor; and as a clear communicator, with strong communication skills gained from my study. Even if I have not had a lot of experience teaching formally, I prepare well for each lesson and provide students with consistent well structured support.

Primarily, my lessons are tailored to entry-level and junior students, including high school students or students in their first year at the university who require basic support, clarification of important concepts, or a boost in their studies to help develop confidence.
