About Hugo Lúa

Hi everyone! My name is Hugo, I'm from Spain and love teaching, traveling, meeting new people and learning about them in different situations. I consider myself an optimistic, empathetic, adaptable and dynamic person. After my studies in engineering and teaching, and during my trips and experiences around the world, I found my two passions: teaching and language. I gained lots of experience in the process of learning language, first Portuguese in Portugal, then in Brazil, after that English in Canada, with a little French along the way. It was during these travels that I began teaching, and have now decided to settle down, focus and develop my teaching skills. My knowledge comes mainly from my own experience as a student, from my travels, and finally from all the pedagogic courses and seminars I have attended, books I've read and hands-on teaching experience I've acquired, with students from many different countries, ages, cultures and levels. These past eight years I taught mainly Spanish and Portuguese, and have evolved as a teacher and as a person. Because I do not believe in separating personal life from professional life, as a teacher I like to be myself, and want my students to feel they can too. I feel joy in teaching and want to inspire the same joy in my students, and I think it's because of this that I'm able to adapt my lessons to everyone.

About the lesson

My lessons are based on conversation and the practical aspects of the language. Teaching exists when someone learns, so my goal is to motivate my students, always, as I don't believe in learning without motivation. The student is the main character of the lesson and my job is to create context and activities adapted to each student and try to go further, even grammar and vocabulary can be interesting to the student when approached correctly. I make the most of resources like music, films, games and dynamic activities, using my understanding of each individual student to adapt the lesson to their needs.

Hugo has two skills that make him a special teacher. On the one side, his goodness; only few times I've seen someone with such amazing empathy to explain the same things with infinity patience. On the other hand, he makes difficult things easy. Most people appreciate that he is engineering, but what makes him really good is his interest in your perform. For me, great professional that leave a mark.

Hugo is a brilliant teacher who has used a variety of methods to develop my understanding. His pedagogy and style of teaching always places my needs first. Classes are determined by what I need to learn and adapt quickly to what I respond well to. I would recommend classes with Hugo to anyone who wants a teacher who will work with them towards their goals.
