I hold a PhD in Creative Writing from Queen’s University Belfast, where I have taught undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students since 2017. I have also worked as a Royal Literary Fund Fellow and Lector, a writing mentor for the Irish Writers Centre, and a tutor in literacy and creative writing across a wide range of educational and community settings. My approach to tutoring is supportive, practical, and student-centered. I aim to help writers develop confidence in their own voice while strengthening the technical skills needed to improve structure, style, characterization, dialogue, and storytelling. I believe creative writing grows through encouragement, close reading, constructive feedback, and regular practice.
I teach through a combination of discussion, guided exercises, reading examples from published authors, and detailed feedback on students’ own work. Lessons are tailored to individual goals, whether a student is beginning their writing journey, preparing university assignments, developing a novel, or refining work for publication. I also provide one-to-one mentoring and ongoing support for writers who want sustained guidance and accountability.

My lessons are suitable for teenagers, adults, university students, emerging writers, and anyone interested in improving their creative writing, literacy, or storytelling skills, regardless of experience level.
