I am a professional Trombonist with 10 years of experience teaching privately and in schools. My lessons aim to inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential in a relaxed environment. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Trombone (Tenor and Bass) Euphonium / Baritone Tuba Trumpet / Cornet Music Theory - Music Theory Lessons I teach from complete beginner and offer tuition for the ABRSM Grade 5 theory exam. I teach beginners to post-grade 8. - Tell me about your qualifications. I have a Master of Music (distinction) degree from the Royal College of Music, in which I specialised in Trombone Performance. I researched, both different composers' approaches to writing for the orchestral trombone, and how orchestral playing has developed throughout the 20th Century. In 2013 I received a First Class Bachelor of Music Honours degree in Trombone and Euphonium performance. This qualification gave me a strong musical grounding with studies in: History of Music, Harmony and Counterpoint, Teaching techniques, Orchestral performance and Chamber Music. I also took great interest in the Alexander Technique. Before attending music college I gained two performance diplomas from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, on Trombone and Euphonium. - How much do you charge? Individual Tuition: 60 minutes £35 30 minutes £25 - When are you available? I am completely flexible and happy to organise a time that suits us both. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? Grade exams are, in my opinion, not the sole reason to learn an instrument! It is exciting to gain recognition of your progress, but I aim to provide a balanced course of teaching that will produce a well-rounded musician. I have experience of preparing students for both Trinity Guildhall and ABRSM graded exams and ABRSM Diplomas. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I can tutor online through Zoom or Facetime. - Do you have a personal message for students? Music is a fantastic activity to pursue. Whether it is as a hobby or something that may become your profession, it is a brilliant source of enjoyment for so many people. My lessons aim to realise this enjoyment factor whilst providing motivation and detailed instruction in order to help you achieve your potential.

Rory is a superb and inspiring teacher. He brings a wealth of playing and teaching experience, of a range of brass instruments, to my trumpet lessons. His supportive and flexible approach means I really enjoy my lessons and have been able to make rapid progress. With his help I'm preparing for Grade 4 in addition to now having the confidence to play with other musicians for pleasure. I feel lucky to have Rory teach me and highly recommend him to anyone wishing to start or continue their musical journey.
I cannot recommend Rory enough. At 64 I thought the chance of me ever learning an instrument had gone. With his musical knowledge and skill with the instrument, I am learning the trombone. The unique way he teaches helped me overcome what I thought was an impossible task. His friendly manner has never faltered regardless of how many times he repeats an instruction. This is a wonderful experience and I wish I found Rory sooner. I don't think you could find a better person to help you play an instrument.
