About Marina
My name is Marina Ballesteros. This semester, I graduate from the B.S. Music Technology program at Temple University, with a minor degree in Information Science & Technology. I'm a composer, performer, music technologist, and sound designer among other things, but I'm fluent in all things music! I recently moved to the Pittsburgh (Cranberry Township) area with my husband, so I'd love to meet new people and share how fun and approachable music (reading & theory) could be. My main instrument is voice, but I am classically trained in piano as well. I have experience being in a community and university chorale, while also working as a conductor in a community group setting with over 30 people of various ages. I also have experience being in an electronic ensemble so I know what it means to think about interpreting the music and playing it with expression.

My teaching approach is personalized learning. That means on our first meeting, we will establish some goals that would allow me to gauge what you know and what you'd like to focus on so I could create a program that caters to your needs.
We will start with the basics on our first lesson: Reading Pitch & Rhythm
-- we'll learn about clefs, accidentals, pitch class, and time signature!
-- we'll find out what these mean, what they look like, how they are written, and practice notating these
(sound like a lot? sound like a little? let's customize it to your pace)
My sessions are meant for beginners who have absolutely zero experience up to those who need some extra guidance and don't know where to start.
Of course, if you have had prior experience and know all these already - but need some reinforcement on your music theory skills (written & aural), I could help you with a variety of topics including: scales, counterpoint, harmony, structure, form, and analysis topics.
Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Maria has been very helpful in getting me to start playing the piano! She explains things very easily, so I can understand right away!
I known Marina for several years now. She is a wonderful and patient teacher who gives solid step-by-step explanations for a newbie like me.
I’ve known Marina for a few years now and I’d say she’s one of the most patient people I know. She has a way of explaining concepts to people that make it easy to understand and fully grasp. I’d recommend her to teach anyone about music in a heartbeat especially since she’s so passionate about it!

PRICING DETAILS:
A. INDIVIDUAL: It's $30/hr for individual and personalized instruction.
B. PAIRED LEARNING: If you'd like to bring a friend, a sibling, a parent for FREE - I ask that they're committed to the same goals, and they attend every session to minimize setbacks in learning. I find that it's a great environment to be learning and experiencing things with another person.
C. 3+ (GROUP): As the learning becomes a bit more challenging with more interactions, for group rates I charge $20/hr (per person) as there's more people to give feedback on and teach. I would suggest a reasonable group number being nothing over 5 as it affects how personalized the sessions could be.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
I ask that you give me at least a day's notice for cancellations, as I reserve specific time slots and be as flexible as I can. I do have a job outside of this (working remotely), and while that allows me certain liberties - I only ask that you are respectful of my time.
