About Holly

I graduated with First Class Honours in BA History in Bristol, winning the 'Glynn Stone Best Dissertation Prize'. Over the course of my BA, I worked hard for many other achievements, including:
-Being selected to present my Critical Heritage paper at a 'Celebration of Student Excellence' event at the M Shed museum in Bristol.
-Being selected for the paid internship with the Regional Historian, where I took on an Editorial role, as well as researching and writing three articles which were published in the journal.
-Being selected to work with an award-winning social history museum to pitch, research and curate two new permanent exhibition rooms, and produce accompanying learning materials for visiting school groups.
-Researching and writing information boards for Brecon's 'Hist

I am now studying a two-year MA in Global Cultures at the University of Bologna, where I specialise in Social History, currently researching folk customs and community justice. Only 50 students out of over 7000 applicants were accepted onto this course.

I'm an active member of the 'Una Europa' academic alliance of 12 university across Europe, and have just returned from presenting my research at a student conference in Paris. I will be applying for PhD funding with Una Europa next year.

My approach is entirely student-led. I know that one approach doesn't suit all; and it's my job to understand what clicks for each student I work with. My aim is to nurture confidence and enthusiasm in the subject. As someone who went from struggling in school to finishing top of my class and now pursuing a career in academia, I understand that the key to success is usually in finding an approach to learning that suits you.

As a starting point, we'll look at your goals which may range from preparation for a specific exam to better comprehension of the subject as a whole. We’ll discuss the areas that you need the most help with and the areas that you feel most confident in and enjoy. I'm a fan of sandwiching the tougher areas between some activities on areas that you enjoy, to help build confidence and foster a positive learning environment. I offer my first session free so that we can get to know each other, discuss which areas you want help with, learning preferences, and generally get a feel for working together.

I will use materials specific to your exam board and curriculum; and am happy to read your past work to highlight specific areas for improvement and set goals. For many students, the main goal is passing an exam. As such, we will focus on the marking criteria and expectations at your level. We’ll work on the necessary skills to excel, including essay technique and critical writing. My aim is not only to help you understand your subject, but to help you illustrate your understanding confidently with a high standard of writing. These are all skills which can be learned and practiced.

I also offer help with writing stand-out personal statements for university applications.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you!
