About Jack

I am a University of Edinburgh Graduate and current masters student. I also train full time, as a swimmer, along side my academics. As a consequence I can offer a unique tutoring experience as an elite level athlete, and student.
I strive for excellence in both my academics and sporting career. As such, I have seen success in both fields with a first class honours in my undergraduate degree and a Bronze Medal at the 2018 commonwealth games, in the 4x100 swimming relay. My passion for academic and sorting performance has led me to a Masters in Performance Psychology, in addition to a data researcher and analyst for my governing body, Scottish Swimming.
I have significant experience with personal tutoring in both sport and academic settings from personal training and swim teaching to tuition in subjects such as English, Business Studies, PE and general study management/timetabling. The later is of particular importance across all areas and is often neglected from tutor/teaching perspective.
I believe I bring a unique perspective to tutoring through my dual career success as both an athlete, and academic, as well as my broad field of study experience in my Undergraduate and Masters programs.

About the lesson

My teaching range is from Secondary/Middle school up to University Undergraduate. My teaching methodology is strongly connected to my student-athlete experience.
To strive for peak performance in any area, sporting or academics, should be developed upon the foundations of high quality, focused repetition on key fundamental tasks related to the given subject pursuit. Furthermore, my teaching style reflects this through a structured program/approach to timetabling. In order to fulfill the goal of a focused high quality output the approach to study and training is of vital importance. Through my own experience and research 'a little and often' is an optimal approach to cognitive skill acquisition, of complex subjects, in addition to the development of a fundamental understanding of task. It is more beneficial to apply yourself for a shorter period to a higher standard, on a more regular basis, than attempt to spend an entire day on a subject or task leading to diminished quality and reinforcement of bat habits. Not only would my tutoring be related to specific subject area but it would also the planning and management of study approaches/planning in general, arguably as important as understanding the martial.
These are the overarching areas that, I believe, have led to my own success and are the underlying methodologies to my teaching approach.
