About Mariam

My name is Mariam. I am a 25 year old participation and development officer working at a human rights charity. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have witnessed the degree to which communication matters. Choosing the right words, using accessible language, and painting a story with your choices can make a huge difference wherever you go.

I have a BA and MSc in International Relations, and got through my degrees by teaching. I taught English as a second language for newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees for 3 years. I also taught academic materials to younger cohorts as an academic tutor. I love writing, and breaking down barriers by giving people the tools to use their voice in an engaging way. I am bilingual so I understand the nuances of learning a new language, and the importance of connecting dots between what you know and what you want to know. I am happy to give you more information about myself, should you ask!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is that everybody has a different way of interacting with learning materials. Therefore, it is important for tutors to be adaptable and find a way to engage their students. I am able to do this through interactive learning sessions catered to the needs of my students.

- Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although if you need a longer or shorter session we can discuss further.
- I have 4 years experience teaching English in various settings to various levels; ranging from A1 to C2 and higher.
- My lessons can be adapted to support individuals of all ages, although my expertise lies in teaching teenagers and adults.
