About Matthew
During my undergraduate (BS; major biotechnology, minor chemistry) and graduate (MS biology) studies I have been a member of several biological and medical research laboratories studying: gene expression; stem cell regeneration; vaccine and drug discovery; role of amyloid-like proteins in development; long-term memory formation; and Alzheimer's disease. In-between my time spent in the lab, I developed a passion for teaching others and have lectured and worked 1:1 with high school and college students in: biology; chemistry; physics; math; and other subjects.

The passage of knowledge from one individual to another is critical for the advancement of society and because of this teaching is one of the most important professions in the world. When teaching I focus on engaging my students using thought provoking, real inquires. By doing this they must then think critically about not only about the problem itself but how any potential solutions could be influenced by the chemical/biological system they are contained in. The students then come up with better solutions and new questions/hypotheses that they might not have thought of before if they weren’t pushed to do so. In doing this, I hope to not only teach the necessary material in a manner that the students will retain but also instill in them both curiosity for the world around them and passion for learning.
