About Alice

I am a BA Modern Languages graduate in French, Spanish and Italian. I have always enjoyed learning languages; I took Russian and French at school, started Spanish at A Level, and Italian from scratch at degree level. This has not only increased my confidence in my ability to learn quickly and to obtain a good degree of fluency, but also given me a good knowledge of the process involved in learning languages, which is integral to being able to teach. I spent 6 months in Spain, studying at a university in Granada, which has given me an appreciation for both the language and the culture.

About the lesson

I believe that advance preparation is an integral element of an online tutoring session, so I will create a structure of lesson plans, combining key topics and grammar points, for each of my languages and levels. I will then be able to adapt these activities to individual student’s needs and interests. I think that it is important to make the sessions as personalised as possible, with a mixture of activities to strengthen reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, all of which form a part of GCSE and A-Level language assessments. For each session, I will start by assessing the student’s pre-existing knowledge and skills, then introduce the topic or grammar point by using modelling and worked examples, followed by the main learning activities for them to practice the new learning points.

A key part of helping students to make progress and attain their personalised goals is to recognise the areas of the subject that they are more confident in, and to spend more time focusing on the areas that need more practice. In order to measure a student’s progress, I think it is important to keep track of what they have achieved in each session, as well as setting some additional consolidation activities to track progress between sessions, and to encourage the student to strengthen their skills.
