About Karen
Hello,
My name is Karen and I am looking to branch outside the traditional classroom that I have been working in for the last 7 years and start one-on-one or small-group tutoring. I spent 2 years teaching 5th grade in Charlotte, North Carolina, and moved back to Michigan where I have been teaching 1st and 4th grade for the last 5 years. Prior to my classroom experience, I was an Outdoor Education Instructor at 2 YMCA camps in Michigan. Working with kids has always been my passion, after 7 years in the classroom I am looking to make more of an individual impact on students' lives. Often we have classes of 25+ students and limited time to attend to the needs of each individual student. I want to help all students I work with gain confidence and feel successful with their schoolwork. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and I am working on my M.A. in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics Education. According to the latest research on reading and math development, there are base skills that students need to be solid in because those skills are necessary to apply to the next level of skills your student needs. Throughout my 7 years of teaching 1st, 4th, and 5th grades I have seen kids at every level and have crafted interactive, hands-on lessons and activities to help them grow as a learner. I am looking to branch out of the traditional classroom and use my knowledge and experience to help your student increase both their knowledge and confidence.
