About Maryam
I am a first year medical student; I came top of my cohort in GCSE in English language and English literature. I did A level English literature and had the highest UMS in Wales.
I have a passion for exploring the subtle nuances in literature and language and I give lessons to GCSE English literature and English language students as well as A level English literature students.
I have previously helped teach English lessons at my school and found it immensely rewarding how you can guide and encourage a student's thought process so that they are able to arrive at a unique fully developed idea that allows them to explore prose or poetry from a different angle, whilst also fully meeting the examiner's criteria for the higher end grades.

The foundation of my teaching method is based upon expanding on the student's preliminary ideas about a certain piece of prose/ poem/ title/ question (usually from past paper questions). I spend the first 10-15 minutes guiding my students to develop a concrete sense of their own ideas. The bulk of the lesson is then spent upon providing them with different angles on the same subject using well-known critics (for literature) and other pieces of similar writing written by myself or other students (for language).
The lesson is wrapped by using specification objectives from the exam board website to ensure that the piece of writing and answers meet exam board criteria.

If a student requires extra support during the lesson, the rate is increased by £4/hour.
If the student's home is in Newport/Caerphilly then the travel cost is £3.40 per lesson (cost of return bus ticket).
If a student's home is in Cardiff then the travel cost is £4.50 per lesson (cost of return bus ticket).
