About Emma Jade

I am a half-Swedish, half-Malaysian medical student based in Brighton, UK. I have been a high-performer in both academics and extracurriculars throughout my upbringing. I am a passionate learner who wants to inspire students to fall in love with their subjects and find their passions.

About the lesson

Learning is so much more than just learning facts, so in order to transform it from a chore into a passion, I seek to prioritise understanding before delving into memorisation. I plan my tutoring sessions around the individual and help them find ways of learning that work best for them as an individual that they may also apply in future academic pursuits. I would take the students' current teaching material from Biology classes and assist them in working through it, allowing them to reach their own understandings of concepts. From there, I would teach them information retention techniques that will help them to remember the many names and processes that Biology is filled with. I want to create comfortable learning environments for my students, where they can be heard and can feel open to fully express themselves and their ideas.

A typical lesson will last from an hour to an hour and a half. Times are very malleable and can be adjusted according to needs and preferences. My lessons are aimed towards GCSE, A-level, IBDP and final year IBMYP students of all levels and capabilities studying Biology.

I completed my high-school education through the academically challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) programme and took Biology at Higher Level - which is equivalent to a Biology A-Level. I received an award upon graduation for my excellent performance in Biology. I also earned a near-perfect score in my individual lab research project with a focus on genetics. Since graduating, I have been attending medical school for 2 years. I was awarded by my medical school for being one of the best Peer Tutors in my year and have plenty of experience helping others learn Biology at GCSE and A-level difficulties - so although I lack formal experience as a tutor, this is not something I am new to.
