About Ryan

I am currently a senior in college majoring in medical microbiology and am an avid researcher. For the past three years, I've been conducting research at a biotechnology lab, focusing on the structural biology and molecular mechanisms of CRISPR proteins in bacteria. This hands-on experience has significantly enhanced my understanding of complex biological processes, which I often incorporate into my tutoring sessions.

My tutoring journey began in my sophomore year of high school when I started taking community college classes after school. After just one semester, my microbiology professor recommended me as a Biology tutor to the college's tutoring department. My success in this role and positive feedback from students quickly led to an additional position as a chemistry tutor. Since then, I have fallen in love with the profession, finding great satisfaction in helping others understand and appreciate these fascinating subjects.

Two and a half years later, I simultaneously graduated from high school and community college, earning both my high school diploma and an associate's degree in biochemistry. Now, as I complete my bachelor's degree, I continue to balance my academic pursuits with my passion for tutoring. Outside of my scientific endeavors, I'm an avid fantasy reader and enjoy exchanging book recommendations, which often serves as a great way to connect with my students on a personal level.

About the lesson

I design my lessons to ensure students not only can solve homework problems and answer test questions but also fundamentally understand concepts and theories. This strong foundation of knowledge enhances students' confidence in tackling problems independently.

A typical lesson plan begins with a concept review, incorporating numerous pictures and drawings for visualization. This is followed by a substantial number of practice problems I've designed to challenge students in their weakest areas. My lessons cater to both high school students and undergraduates, focusing on building a strong foundation in biology and chemistry.

I was fortunate to have exceptional high school and college teachers who shared valuable mnemonics, tricks, and tips for understanding complex biological and chemical phenomena. For the past five years, I've been actively passing down this knowledge to my students as a tutor, helping them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of these subjects.
