About Elif
Hi, I'm Elif! I am a final-year Molecular Biology student at McMaster University and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma graduate. My academic work so far has given me an in-depth, practical understanding of biology, genetics, and cell biology, with the hands-on lab experience I needed to see how these concepts work in the real world.
Having navigated the rigorous IB program, specifically HL Biology and Chemistry and a demanding STEM degree, I know firsthand how overwhelming these science courses can feel. I also know it is not always a simple and linear journey. But I am passionate about making complex molecular pathways and scientific topics feel more approachable and easy to digest for my students.
As a tutor, I believe in the importance of being patient, understanding, and organized. I understand that asking for help can sometimes be intimidating, so my priority is to create a welcoming, stress-free environment where no question is too small or unnecessary. Whether you are struggling to keep up with biology or looking to develop your study methods, my goal is to provide you with the motivation and academic skills you need to overcome your courses.

Hi, I'm Elif! I am a final-year Molecular Biology student at McMaster University and an IB Diploma graduate (with HL Biology and Chemistry). Because I spend my time in the lab, I can help students bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world science. Having been through the rigorous IB schedule myself, I know how to study efficiently and can offer specialized guidance for lab reports, lessons, and IAs.
I try to be highly interactive and focus on how you learn best. Instead of lectures, I try to achieve a more customized, Q&A-style learning. I can adapt my materials to your specific learning style, for example using mind maps and infographics for visual learners, or recommending books, articles or podcasts that can interest you and focusing more on conversational explanations for auditory learners. I encourage you to run the concepts by me so I can provide feedback and correct any misunderstandings.
Every session is student-led and flexible. We usually start by identifying and briefly reviewing the specific concepts you want to focus on that day. From there, we break down the material using the tools that fit your learning style before moving on with Q&A. You can bring your homework, past-paper questions, or confusing topics, and I can guide you through answering them step by step so you are prepared for your exams.
High school students taking Grade 9–12 Science and Biology are welcome. I can also work with IB Diploma students for HL and SL Biology, as well as providing Internal Assessment (IA) advising. I am also happy to help first and second year university students who need support with molecular biology, genetics, and cell biology.
